Die legendäre Pyramid Stage bekommt einen Headliner, den die Glastonbury-Fans schon gern letztes Jahr gesehen hätten: die irischen Rocklegenden U2 werden am Freitag, den 24.06. das Glastonbury Festival 2011 bespielen.
Dabei befinden sie sich in bester Superstar-Gesellschaft: Samstag, den 25.06. werden Coldplay, und Sonntag, den 26.06. Beyonce headlinen (wir berichteten).
Zum Glastonbury 2010 mussten U2 ihren Auftritt aufgrund des Gesundheitszustands von Sänger Bono leider kruzfristig absagen, nun freut sich die Band auf ihren Glastonbury-Gig:
„We’re so excited to get to play in front of the world’s greatest festival audience.„ – U2
Die U2-Bestätigung wurde gestern Abend wärend der NME Awards bekannt, als die Glückwünsche an Michael und Emily Eavis für den Best Festival award von U2 Gitarrist The Edge übermittelt wurden.
„After the disappointment of U2 being unable to play last year, we’re now doubly excited at the prospect of the Friday night supergroup breaking the sound barrier.“ – Michael Eavis
Das Glastonbury sei etwas ganz Besonders, mehr Lebensart als Festival teile The Edge mit;
„I made it last year to the Friday show – got to play with Muse, got to hang out, ate a veggie burger and fries, and got to play on the Pyramid Stage. I have to say there is something really special and iconic about that stage. So we’re all looking forward to coming back to pick up where I left off. And we’re so excited to get to play in front of the world’s greatest festival audience. We’ll see you there.“
